The Indian Premier League (IPL) was instituted in 2008 as the premier T20 cricket league in India. The Indian Premier League’s official launch event was held in Mumbai on April 15, 2008, and featured a glitzy opening ceremony showcasing the stars of the game, as well as fireworks, drummers, and colorful lights. The first match of the tournament was held on April 18, 2008 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

2008 – Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals became the first champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 01 JUN 2008. They were led by Shane Warne, who was not only their captain but also their mentor. Warne played an instrumental role in leading the team to glory, as they won the first IPL title. In the final, Chennai Super Kings, batting first, gave the Royals a total of 163 runs. Suresh Raina scored 43 runs in 30 balls from Chennai side. Chasing the score, Rajasthan Royals completed the score with 3 wickets remaining to win the final, in which Yusuf Pathan top-scored for his team with 56 runs in 39 balls.

2009 – Deccan Chargers

The Deccan Chargers were the second team to win the IPL title, in 24 MAY 2009. Under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist, the Chargers defied all odds and pulled off a miraculous victory in the IPL final against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The biggest weapon in their arsenal was the pace bowling of South African pacer Dale Steyn who bowled figures of 8-0-33-3 in the final. With strong batting performances by Rohit Sharma and JP Duminy and a solid effort on the field, the Chargers won the title by six runs.

2010 – Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings are the only team that has managed to win the IPL title five times. In 25 APR 2010, when they became the champions, they were led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the final against the Mumbai Indians, dhoni’s men put up a total of 168/5 runs, which proved to be too much for the Indians, who were restricted to a total of 146/6 runs. Led by man-of-the-match Suresh Raina who scored 57 runs in the final, the Super Kings clinched their first-ever IPL trophy.

2011 – Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings were able to defend their title on 28 MAY 2011 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Under the brilliant leadership of MS Dhoni, the Super Kings once again posted a total of 205 before restricting the Bangalore team to just 147 runs. The win clinched a second consecutive IPL title for the Chennai Super Kings.

2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Gautam Gambhir, wrote their name in the record books in 27 MAY 2012 when they became the third team to win the IPL title twice. Their victory in the final against the Chennai Super Kings has been achieved thanks to severe contributions from the entire team. In the final, the Super Kings batting first set the Knight Riders a target of 190 runs, which the Knight Riders chased down by scoring 192/5 in 19.4 overs.

2013 – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won the IPL final on 26 May 2013. The team was led by Rohit Sharma, who took Chennai Super Kings to a total of 148 runs in the final, chasing which MS Dhoni’s team could only add 125 runs in 20 overs. Kieron Pollard contributed the maximum 60 runs for Mumbai, while Ms Dhoni (c)(wk) scored the highest 63 runs from Chennai.

2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders were eminently successful in retaining their IPL title in 01 JUN 2014. Led by Gautam Gambhir, they faced the Kings XI Punjab in the finals and came out victorious by a margin of three wickets. Yusuf Pathan and Manish Pandey were the highest run scorers for the team, with Pandey playing an instrumental role in the batting order.

2015 – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians created history on 24 May 2015 by becoming the first team to win the IPL title 2 times. In the final, they faced Chennai Super Kings and emerged as the winning team by a margin of 41 runs. Lendl Simmons was the top run-scorer for the side, and combined with Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard, he scored a total of 202 runs and then restricted Chennai to just 161 runs on the board.

2016 – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by David Warner, created an upset in 29 MAY 2016, as they went on to clinch their maiden IPL title. In the championship match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, they managed to chase down a formidable total of 208 runs, with Warner’s unbeaten innings of 69 runs being the highlight of the match. The bowlers also played their part in restricting the RCB batsmen to a score of 200 runs.

2017 – Mumbai Indians

The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians created history by becoming the first team to win the IPL title 3 times in 21 MAY 2017. In the final, they faced the Rising Pune Supergiants and managed to successfully chase down a total of 129 runs, with unbeaten innings of 47 runs by Krunal Pandya. The bowling attack of Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Lasith Malinga also restricted the Supergiants to a total of just 128 runs.

2018 – Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings created history on 27 MAY 2018 by becoming the first team after Mumbai to win three consecutive IPL titles. Led by MS Dhoni, they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final and restricted them to a total of 178 runs, and then chased down the total in 18.3 overs with an unbeaten 117 by Shane Watson.

2019 – Mumbai Indians

On 12 MAY 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi Intl Cricket Stadium, Mumbai Indians won the fourth IPL title and became the most successful team in the history of IPL. In the final, Mumbai Indians scored a total of 149 runs against Chennai Super Kings. They defended it with some precise bowling performances from Jasprit Bumrah, Alzarri. In the end, the scoreboard read Mumbai Indians winning by a margin of 1 run.

2020 – Mumbai Indians

Continuing the winning streak, Mumbai Indians also won the fifth IPL title on 10 NOV 2020. It created history in IPL by winning the IPL title five times. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the final match, the team won by scoring 157 runs. Delhi Capitals had given a total target of 156 runs in 20 Overs in front of Mumbai Indians, which Mumbai completed in 18.4 Overs.

2021 – Chennai Super Kings

The CSK won their match against the KKR by a margin of 27 runs in the Indian Premier League on 15 OCT 2021 in dubai international stadium. The Chennai Super Kings posted a score of 192-3 in their allotted 20 overs. The Chennai bowlers then restricted the KKR to 165/9 in their 20 overs with spinners Shardul Thakur taking 3 and Ravindra Jadeja taking 2 wickets each. Josh Hazlewood was also impressive, taking 2 wickets and giving away only 29 runs in his four overs. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was pleased with his team’s performance and said in the post-match presentation that he was happy with the way the team executed their plans and won the match.

2022 – Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans emerged victorious in the IPL On 29 MAY 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals by winning by an impressive margin of 7 wickets. RR batted first and posted a total of 130/9 in their allotted twenty overs. In reply, GT won this score by scoring 133/3 in just 18.1 overs. In this, Shubman Gill’s brilliant contribution of 45 runs and David Miller’s stormy innings of 32 runs were very important. Apart from this, Hardik Pandya (c) who took 3 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4-over spell, and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore spent 20 runs in his 2 overs but also managed to get 2 wickets for GT.

2023 – Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2023 saw a thrilling contest between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Although this match was to start on Sunday, 28 May 2023, due to rain, this match had to be postponed to Monday, 29 May 2023. Rain affected the match again on 29 May, with the target score and overs being reduced using the DLS method.

Titans put up a strong batting display with 214/4 in their 20 overs, setting a formidable target for the Super Kings. Wriddhiman Saha gave a brilliant opening for GT, scoring 54 runs in 39 balls, while Shubman Gill contributed 39 runs in 20 balls while supporting him.

CSK’s bowling did not have much impact on GT. Matheesha Pathirana from CSK took 2 wickets for 44 runs in his 4-over spell. On the other hand, if we talk about CSK’s batting, then Ravindra Jadeja was the hero of the match, who scored a winning inning of 15 runs in the last 6 balls. In the 15th over, they finally bowled out the Titans to win the match by 5 wickets.
